Players & CoA decide to meet again Dec 6

The members of the committee of administrators (coa) and indian team management had a marathon meeting and in the end they decided to meet again after the third test in delhi.

The meeting is tentatively scheduled for december 6 when some concrete measures are expected. yesterday’s meeting was more about understanding each other’s problems and compulsions. the players representatives, as virat kohli has been pointing out, wanted longer gaps between series and the coa were of the view that the finance matters need the approval of the members. ravi shastri and ms dhoni besides kohli represented the players in the meeting with coa chief vinod rai, member diana edulji and bcci ceo rahul johri. it is learnt that both parties came to a conclusion that a middle ground can be reached on both issues. a source present at the meeting said, “the best thing about the meeting was that the players opened their hearts out and expressed their views on various issues before the coa members.” more importantly, the players were shown india’s schedule for the four years (stating 2019) and they were happy with the way the programmes were prepared. the programme needs to be approved by the icc members when they meet in singapore on december 7 and 8 but it can be confirmed that there is no pakistan in india’s schedule. south africa, england and australia, of course, take the major chunk of india’s time. as about the remuneration package, the coa explained that they are working on the resources. it is said that no numbers were discussed but emphasis has been made on protecting test specialists who don’t get lucrative ipl contracts. the cases in point, mentioned during the meeting, were cheteshwar pujara and ishant sharma. as for ipl, there was some understanding that there should a cap on the uncapped players’ salary so that no team can splurge on an unheralded player. meanwhile, the coa will meet in mumbai on monday to discuss ways to take the players’ suggestion forward. the coa is expecting a report from the finance committee on the wage revision which is being prepared by treasure anirudh chaudhry after instructions from the acting president ck khanna and the coa members.
