Rohit Sharma stormed his way to 7000 One-Day International runs as he notched up his 19th ODI hundred in 187 matches during India’s Super Four clash against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2018 on Sunday. Rohit Sharma, along with Shikhar Dhawan, who also scored his 15th ODI hundred, smoked the Pakistani bowlers in their chase of 238 runs. India were in control of the chase right from the outset and within 30 overs, they were already in sight of the total. Rohit Sharma reached his 7000th ODI run for India in just 181 innings to become the third fastest Indian to reach the milestone, trailing regular captain Virat Kohli, who scored 7000 ODI runs in just 161 innings, and former captain Sourav Ganguly, who reached the milestone in 174 innings. Before Rohit, India’s most celebrated batsman Sachin Tendulkar was the third fastest to the milestone. Rohit scored his 7000th ODI run with a single off Shaheen Afridi as he reached 94 runs in 99 deliveries. Rohit 19th ODI century came in 106 deliveries as he sneaked a couple of runs off Shoaib Malik’s delivery. He is also the fourth fastest batsman and second quickest Indian to reach 19 ODI hundreds. Virat Kohli took 124 innings to score 19 ODI centuries. Rohit and Dhawan absolutely took the Dubai International Stadium by storm during their match against Pakistan as they looked to inflict further misery on their arch-rivals. The two teams came up against each other in the group stages of the Asia Cup 2018, where India thrashed Pakistan by seven wickets. On Sunday, India looked like they would register an even better victory. The chase was set up by Indian bowlers, who pulled back things extremely well in the last 10 overs after Shoaib Malik and Sarfraz Ahmed had rebuilt the Pakistan innings despite three early blows. Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal dominated the Pakistani batsmen by holding back the runs and taking regular wickets. Just like their last two matches, India put up another solid show in Dubai on Sunday.
